How to pair:
Pair African Violet with Poppy Red, a seductive, sensual and celebratory shade.
Pair Dusk Blue with the intensity of Nectarine for an unexpected mix.
Try pairing Linen with Grayed Jade or Dusk Blue.
Pair Monaco Blue with Poppy Red and Linen, or Monaco Blue and Emerald for a fresh collegiate look.
From Pantone’s lips to our ears:
The prevalence of green this spring is undeniable. Similar to the many shades in our natural surroundings, this season’s greens offer a stunning foreground or the perfect backdrop for all other hues.
- Tender Shoots, like the first signs of spring, a vibrant yellow-green, is invigorating, active and cheerful.
- Grayed Jade, a subtle, hushed green with a gray undertone, brings about a mood of quiet reflection and repose.
- Sophisticated Emerald, a lively, radiant green, inspires insight and clarity while enhancing our sense of well-being.
- Dusk Blue offers a calming sense of serenity akin to its green counterpart, Grayed Jade. Both of these colors act as the season’s newest neutrals.
- A warm neutral, Linen is light and airy, providing a nudelike basic that is a must have for spring.
- Exotic African Violet is a statement color that brings a touch of intrigue to the palette, as purples often do, and can be incorporated into many unexpected combinations.
- Exuberant Poppy Red, a seductive, sensual and celebratory shade. Whether it’s a knockout dress or a kiss on the lips, every woman’s wardrobe and beauty essentials should include this spirited, true red.
- Nectarine, a bright, effervescent citrus orange with coral undertones, provides a tangy burst of flavor.
- Lemon Zest brings out a piquant taste with its refreshing, spritely greenish cast.

Ocean Inspired Succulent Gardens for Your Beach House
| September 15, 2012 | Posted by naturally modern under All Posts, Beach Houses, Color Palettes, Outdoor Design |

We love succulent gardens! While pretty much any combination of succulents in a gardens will likely look amazing because of their natural beauty and easy relationships to one another, there are some great how-to articles out there to help you go from good to breathtaking… Sunset magazine, which we adore, published an article on one of our favorite things – how to plant a succulent garden inspired by the ocean! Click on the link below to read the whole story.
“Succulents are … as jewel-toned as shells, sculptural as seastars, or fluttery as sea anemones. … The plantings create a spot-on connection between land and sea, as though they simply arose from the waves complete, like Venus on the half-shell, to their perch atop [a] bluff. [Succulents] thrive on little water and stay low enough to frame [a] coastal view without blocking it.” ( via Sea-Creature Succulents – Sunset.com.)
Is White The New Stainless?
| September 7, 2012 | Posted by naturally modern under All Posts, Color Palettes, Decor, Interior Design |

Whirlpool Corp., the worlds largest home-appliance maker, recently introduced its “Ice Collection” of appliances, including glossy white. “White is the new stainless,” a Whirlpool news release says. (via Is this the end of a 25-year run for stainless steel? – Yahoo!. Photos above: 1-Dreamhome-design bloogspot; 2-Yahoo.com.)
We don’t know if white will unseat stainless when it comes to appliances, but white definitely feels fresh in design right now. Light, clean, modern and fresh. We dedicated one of our Pinterest Boards to the hue – check out our board “In the White” and let us know your favorites. Here are a couple of our favorites:

The White Pantsuit

It didn’t start with Bianca Jagger, but she certainly wore it well. The white pantsuit for a woman is still chic, no matter what your size or shape. Its always fresh, modern and… flattering! Who would have thought white would be flattering to everyone? Well, try the white pantsuit and you won’t be disappointed. It all depends on having the right cut in the jacket to nip in the waist and give structure to your shoulders. The pants depend on your body and your preferences – wide-leg, skinny, flowy, linen, cropped or even a skirt. Its up to you. Depending on the fabric, this outfit can be worn for causal events, work and office events, formal evens, or even on your wedding day. The white suit is naturally modern!

Moody Neutrals – Creams, Browns and Greys

We love the combination of creams, greys and darker woods. This version of a neutral color palette lends a slightly “moody modern” aesthetic to a design while wood accents add enough “natural” to keep a room inviting. This is a naturally sophisticated modern design concept and we can hardly get enough of it. Here are some of our favorite examples of this beautiful design concept.
